Whether it's joining clubs, completing internships, enjoying a talk or reading through the visiting writers series, participating in faculty research, or something else, there are no shortage of opportunities for English majors to get involved on campus and within the community. Internships
- Participate in a wide range of internships, on or off campus, in topics like archives, libraries, and museums; journalism and media; publishing; nonprofits; marketing; and more. Our students have completed internships at newspapers, presses, the LBGTQ Community Center, Library of Congress, Maryland State Archives, and many more.
- Read poetry, fiction, or nonfiction submissions as a screener for Cherry Tree: A National Literary Journal at Ҵý. To qualify as a screener, you must complete the Literary Editing and Publishing course offered each spring.
- Earn an editorial position on one of our student publications, Collegian literary magazine, The Elm newspaper, Pegasus yearbook, or Ҵý Review academic journal.
- Receive funding for your internship through a Sophie Kerr Promise Grant.
- Earn academic credit for your internship.
- Arrange your own internship experience through your own connections, or by tapping into the Center for Career Development's extensive network.

Research
- Complete a Senior Capstone Experience (SCE), bringing together research and interpretive skills to a written thesis. SCEs are presented in lightning talks at the end of the year.
- Have your work published in one of our student publications..
- Receive funding for your independent research project through a Sophie Kerr Promise Grant.
- Attend a professional conference.
- Create your own research project. Support, financial or otherwise, is available across campus, including through the Hodson Collaborative Research Program or the Cater Society for Junior Fellows. &Բ;

Student Publications
- publishes weekly online and biweekly in print. Students serve as editors for various sections—pitching, editing, and laying out stories—and as staff writers, attending events, conducting interviews, and writing articles.
- , publishes an issue of staff work at the beginning of each academic year, and several issues of contributed work throughout the year, both online and in print. Students serve as editors for different parts of the magazine, screening submissions, workshopping accepted pieces, copyediting, laying out the issue, and more. Submissions to Collegian are open to any Ҵý student.
- , publishes online once each semester. The fall volume of the journal, known as the SCE Issue, publishes Student Capstone Experiences from the class that just graduated in May. The spring volume of the journal publishes essays produced by any student as part of any coursework at Ҵý. Students serve as editors of the journal, screening submissions, copy editing, and publishing the issue.
