Residence Halls
Your residence hall is your home away from home while you are with us at Washington College. Explore our housing areas and learn about each of our buildings & communities below!
Washington is a residential college where living, eating, and working together forms an integral part of the educational experience. Our housing options are designed to foster community and range from traditional residence halls to apartment-style living on campus.
Housing Options
Except for one gender-inclusive dorm, housing is otherwise split between first-year students and returning students, allowing each class to develop strong ties in their first year at Washington.

Themed housing can help you explore your interests outside of the classroom while connecting students who share your interest. Due to feedback from students and their desire to live where they choose, there is no Presidential Fellows themed house. Presidential Fellows can request to have another Fellow as a roommate if desired. There is currently one active themed house:
Science House - Kent Hall
All science and math related majors are welcome! Research has shown that STEM residence halls increases student persistence and success in their field, especially for women.
How does simply housing STEM students together help? Environment matters, visibility matters.
- Studying together
- Seeing others daily persisting in classes
- Supporting each other now and as they progress in their studies and fields
- Making friendships that will forge professional connections in the future
What kind of classes are we talking about?
Bio 112 and Chem 112 are perfect examples of classes where first year students greatly benefit from living in the same hall.
How do I request to live there?
On your Housing Preference Form, just request Kent Hall. As staff assign students, those who request will be placed there. If spaces are still available, staff will assign people who have expressed interest in a STEM major.

$175 per week for a double room

Summer Food Options
The dining hall will be open for most of the summer. You can pay at the door for your meals, making it easy to only pay for the meals you are on campus. Caroline has a small kitchen, so please plan on eating in the dining hall over the summer.
Gender inclusive housing is a housing option offered in all suite style halls in which any students, regardless of gender, may choose to share the same room or suite. The Hills offers traditional style housing with mixed gender floors. It is up to the student to notify their parents or guardian of the preference to live in gender inclusive housing.
Returning students may choose a gender inclusive housing arrangement during room selection. When possible, incoming students are assigned according to their answer to the preferred roommate gender question on their housing application. If a roommate assignment is unsuccessful, the Area Coordinator can facilitate a room change.
No student will be assigned to a gender inclusive living situation without their consent. Due to the nature of the room selection, genders might be mixed unplanned. Residential Life staff swap those assignments to meet the gender requirements of the residents after room selection to ensure all students are housed in a suite of their gender preference.
Suitemate/Roommates
Although staff are not concerned why students wish to live together, it is strongly discouraged for any student of any sexual orientation to live with someone they are in a close personal relationship with (i.e. dating). Experience consistently shows a negative outcome and it is highly inadvisable.
Vacancy
Should a vacancy occur in a gender inclusive suite:
students may be assigned a student seeking gender inclusive housing (who may be unknown to the suite residents),
Housing Accommodations
If you require housing accommodations due to a documented medical condition, please contact the Office of Disability Services.
